Synopsis
Having spent nine chapters proving Christ's superior priesthood and sacrifice, the author now applies it: 'Having therefore, brethren, boldness to enter into the holiest by the blood of Jesus... let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith.' The veil that once barred access has been torn, for Christ's flesh became the new and living way opened for all. Full assurance is possible not because of sinless performance but because hearts are sprinkled from an evil conscience and bodies washed with pure water — cleansing accomplished, not aspired to. This assurance then produces three exhortations: draw near, hold fast the confession without wavering, and consider one another to provoke unto love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together. Righteousness by faith is never solitary; it always gathers a community around the open way into God's presence.
I. The boldness secured
- Boldness to enter the holiest by the blood of Jesus (10:19)
- A new and living way through the veil, His flesh (10:20)
- A great High Priest over the house of God (10:21)
II. The threefold response
- Draw near with a true heart in full assurance (10:22)
- Hold fast the profession without wavering (10:23)
- Consider one another to provoke unto love and good works (10:24)
III. The cleansing already accomplished
- Hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience
- Bodies washed with pure water
- Assurance rests on finished cleansing, not ongoing effort
IV. The community sustained
- Not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together
- Exhorting one another
- So much the more as ye see the day approaching
The veil is torn and the way is open — you do not need to hesitate outside God's presence any longer. Will you draw near today with full assurance, resting in the cleansing Christ has already provided?
