Evangelism & church revitalisation

Revangelism

A church revived is a church that reaches

Twelve sessions that move a congregation through the whole cycle: the vision of revival joined to mission, the gospel that fuels it, the personal preparation of the worker, honest assessment and renewal of the church, cultivating the soil of a community, sowing the seed in Bible study and public effort, reaping decisions, and conserving the harvest. Every session carries a full written teaching narrative, key points, key texts, practical steps, discussion questions with model answers, and a quiz.

How to use this course

Read this first — Revangelism is worked between the sessions, not only during them.

  1. 1. Read the narrative first

Every session opens with the teaching itself, written out in full. Read it slowly with your Bible open before you touch a single question; the questions assume you have read it.

  2. 2. Write your answers before you look

Type your answer into the box under each question. The model answer only appears after you have written something, and it is there to confirm or correct your thinking, not to replace it. Your writing stays on your own device.

  3. 3. Take the quiz last

Open the Multiple choice tab when the questions are finished. Answer every item, check your score, then use Show all answers to review the explanations. Retake clears it.

  4. 4. Do the steps before the next session

Each session ends with four practical steps. Revangelism is not a reading course; the church is revived and the field is worked between the sessions, not during them.

  5. 5. Work it as a team

Take one session a week with your church board, elders, or a core group of members. Read the narrative aloud, discuss four or five of the questions together, and report on last week's steps before starting the new ones.

  6. 6. Keep Christ at the centre

Methods do not revive a church and they do not convert a community. The righteousness of Christ received by faith is the power behind every phase; ask at the end of each session how this makes the cross plainer to your neighbours.

A word on sources. This course follows the Revangelism approach taught by Tyler Long for the Washington Conference of Seventh-day Adventists — revival and revitalisation joined to evangelism through the phases of preparation, cultivating, sowing, reaping and conserving. The sessions here are written for this study; where a local conference supplies its own Revangelism materials or the Seventh-day Adventist Church Manual speaks, those take precedence.
