Synopsis
Daniells opens by insisting that righteousness by faith is not one doctrine among many but the heart and life of the whole Advent message. He argues that the church was given this message in a special way in 1888, that its purpose was to bring Christ Himself — not merely correct teaching — into the center of Adventist preaching, and that the delay of the kingdom is bound up with the delay in receiving it. He frames the book as a plea, gathering the counsel of Ellen White so that a later generation may accept what an earlier one resisted.
Key points
- Righteousness by faith is 'the third angel's message in verity' — not an appendix to it.
- The message is Christ Himself, personally received, not a refined theory about Christ.
- Doctrinal correctness without Christ produces a dry, powerless, legalistic religion.
- The purpose of the book is restorative: to recover what was offered and largely refused.
Key passages
- Jeremiah 23:6
- Revelation 14:6-12
- 1 Corinthians 1:30
- Romans 1:16-17
